Clouds breaking up

It wasn’t raining when I pulled into Mesa Verde Saturday evening, but I’d already wimped out and booked a room at the Far View Lodge. And I should have known that once I settled into my room with a view, I wasn’t about to abandon it for a tent.

It rained hard Saturday night and was still wet and dreary when I checked out the campground on Sunday morning to see what I was missing. I abandoned my plans to hike in that part of the park and came back up the hill to the lodge.

Mid-afternoon the clouds lifted and I hiked Spruce Canyon in brilliant sunshine. Did not tour any of the major sites as they all require advance booking. My first husband was no doubt partially responsible for that as I have a photo of him taken some 30 years ago sitting on a wall at the Cliff Palace, right next to a sign that says: Don’t sit on wall. I’ll have to find it as it sums up Don in a single image.

Spruce Canyon hike

On to Telluride today. There I have no option other than to camp.

Sky as spectacular as landscape below

Did see some ruins

    Hi Anne,
I’m interested to know/see what tent you use.

At the moment, I’m staying in a tiny Marmot my niece and her husband set up for me. I’ve got a somewhat larger Eddie Bauer in my car. They have a nice bit tent I can stand up in. Don’t remember the brand.
